Another day, another recall. F rom the CNN article “The powertrain software in some of these cars may not work properly, which could deform the fuel tank.
CNET explains it better: The problem originally stemmed from the car’s canister purge !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , part of the fuel system that helps circulate vapor. In the recalled vehicles, that valve might have stuck open, and the powertrain control module in charge of looking for a stuck-open valve may have malfunctioned. If both problems occurred, excessive vacuum might have deformed the fuel tank, which could cause the fuel gauge to act up or stall the vehicle.

I love how the FiST’s never got a recall, and everyone that I know had this issue. Just in the Fiesta, the tank doesn’t deform.
I also love the recall that ended the month before my car was built, for the head cooling issues. Mine definitely suffered from that.

So, you’re saying that Ford is being Ford?

Yikes! I just had my fiesta recall work done. They tried to charge me for the “extra work” due to the modifications done.
Yeah...no.

Me: the powertrain engineers need to learn to code
Also me: no wait not like that

I was impressed initially thinking that the PowerShift transmission is so bad it’s deforming the fuel tank somehow.

Due to the cooling issues, I actually still miss the GTI more.

Software can deform the fuel tank?? How the fuck is that even allowed to happen?

Had that happen on a Suburban. I was testing various fuel related components and I can see the fuel tank sucking itself in... freaky stuff. New vapor solenoid.... assembly, (cant just replace the damn little solenoid) and all good.

Not bad. Not bad. We have a stop sale recall on the Infiniti QX50's right now. We arent even allowed to drive them as the c link bearings can seize and disable the engine, permanently . No fix is currently available, no eta on current repair. We have 6 or 7 of the new batch of 17 we got i n stock presold. With interest to purchase of 4 more. This w ill go over well. I suspect either we will be rebuilding the variable compression engines or replacing short blocks. But you didn’ t hear it from me ;)

Jag Xj6 and Xj8 with the tanks in the trunk would do tuis reg ularly. Complaint was only took 3 gallons to fill empty tank. They usually looked like crumpled beer cans.

So...buy a QX50 now? I have all the facts on my side!
lol

i saw this and was hoping it was for the DCT transmissions

I know. Like...why isn’t this getting more attention. it is insane.

I just thought having to change most of the cooling system on a brand new car with under 250hp was pathetic, but that’s just me.
![]() 07/11/2019 at 11:34 |

oh yeah, totally. Lots about this thing is pathetic.
Overall, I think if you are willing to upgrade a lot of parts from the factory, you can improve quality and maintain the intended balance.
It is a great platform and great engine.

It’s a decent engine, not a great engine. If you leave them alone, they are reliable enough, but it’s not nearly as capable or long term reliable as a K24. That’s a great engine.

They already recalled them for this. Apparently the fix didn’t fix it...

It’s some kind of computer-actuated valve.

I bet they let an EE write the code. Every damned EE I have ever worked with thought they were hot shit with code, when their code was all hot garbage. Totally unmaintainable, hard-coded, with glaring bugs that would cause crashes if any hardware was out of spec. I have seen things that I’d like to forget...
